Metro Atlanta - 45 years of Kiwanis Service
We're Still Going Strong!
Our Club's History . . .
The Metro Atlanta Kiwanis Club, sponsored by the Carrollton Club, was chartered on
October 1, 1979. Erwin Stevens was the founder and first President of our Club. Over the years the club has met at various locations, including 17 years of meeting at the Piccadilly Restaurant in Greenbriar Mall. From 2020 - 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic we met virtually via Zoom.
As of January 2023, due to a new community partnership with the Salvation Army / KROC of Atlanta, we are very excited to begin meeting at our new weekly meeting location.
Please contact John Holley, Secretary at [email protected].
Metro Atlanta participates in all District service programs. At the community level, the club has initiated or taken part in various projects including: Atlanta’s Missing Children Fund, Christmas parties and Six Flags trips for special education students, children book drives, school reading programs, and international student programs. We have sponsored and supported K-Kids, Builders, Key and Circle K Clubs.
In 2004, Club members traveled to Dakar, Senegal in West Africa where we provided school supplies on Goree Island, adopted an orphanage and laid the groundwork for establishing a Kiwanis Club.
Metro Atlanta has contributed to some important Kiwanis “firsts.” Lillie Robbins was one of
our first female members and the first female president of the Metro Atlanta Club. She was the first female lieutenant governor in the District, and was the first black and first female governor of the Georgia District. She is currently the District chair of the Georgia Cares Program, Past Governor’s Association and the Screenings and Nominations Committee.
John Holley was the first black male governor of the District, and currently serves as
Service Leadership Super Program Chair for the Georgia District.
During our 45 years, the Metro Atlanta Kiwanis Club has been an integral part of our Atlanta community, especially in SW Atlanta, and is a Platinum Club in Kiwanis International. We continue efforts to meet the needs of children at home and abroad, and to support the goals of Kiwanis International.
