KIWANIS CHILDREN’S FUND
SEPTEMBER 2024
JOHN C. HOLLEY, CHAIR, KIWANIS CHILDREN’S FUND
In my last article to you, I mentioned to you that Kiwanis International would officially kick-off a new initiative at the International Convention (July 2024), called the “Possibility Project.” I am now reporting that this action did occur, and the Kiwanis Children’s Fund has already begun addressing issues concerning children going hungry around the world every day and about students struggling to read. The “Possibility Project” will be addressing the matter of potential leaders lacking mentors and for Kiwanians to increase their involvement as the needs in these areas continue to grow.
The Possibility Project is our campaign to build a brighter future for children. We will do this by raising $25 million for the Kiwanis Children’s Fund by the end of the 2027-2028 Kiwanis year. This is the first fundraising campaign created solely to support the Kiwanis family and the children we serve. Understand that through the Kiwanis Children’s Fund, just $2.25 is enough to address the needs of one child. This means that our campaign will be serving 10 million kids.
Although the Districts will not be given goals as to an amount of money to raise, every Kiwanian can get involved. There is no expected per-member gift for clubs, but clubs and individual are encouraged to dream of what’s possible and consider a gift that is personally significant and will help the most kids.
Individuals who commit a minimum of $15,000 over three years are recognized through a new giving level, the Cornerstone Society. For other giving levels, the campaign uses existing recognition opportunities, such as the George F. Hixson Fellowship for gifts of $1,000.00 and the Dr. Wil Blechman Fellowship for gifts of $2,500.00.
A Kiwanis club that commits a $500.00 per member average over five years will be honored as an Impact Club. The club will receive a banner patch and will receive recognition at Kiwanis International conventions, District conventions and other events. Be advised that the funds can be raised through club fundraisers, individual giving, club giving, gifts from friends of the club, and corporations. If given annually by an individual member, this equates to approximately $8.33 a month or $100.00 a year.
As we embark on this journey, know that I or other campaign volunteers are available to present this opportunity to you. We were very successful in our two previous campaigns…Iodine Deficiency Disorder and The Eliminate Project. With your participation, The Possibility Project will be another great success that will identify our great organization.
THE CHILDREN ARE COUNTING ON YOU!
As always, as your District Chair, I am your resource for all matters relating to the Kiwanis Children’s Fund. USE ME! My contact information is [email protected] or by phone at (678) 481-7572.
